While riding the Pyrenees we include a climb up the Col de Portet Aspet, which is often included on Tour de France climbs. After a nice stay in the little town of Massat, we rode about 10 miles to the climb. It was about 10k of 7-8% and on the top there was this wonderful little restaurant that made omelets from fresh ingredients.
On the descent, we took it easy! Fabio Casartelli died on the descent and I hate to say I see why. It was basically a 90 degree turn on a 10% grade. I took a picture of the memorial, which had fresh flowers there.
No matter how hot it is, have a light jacket for the top and the descents . . . it’s always chilly!
