Being what many describe as one of the world’s best cities for live music it’s no surprise that Austin has a top notch jazz joint such as the Elephant Room. You can expect a cover charge on occasion and it’s almost always worth it considering the quality of the musicians playing here. The staff was nothing to write home about in terms of service, but the bar itself more than makes up for it. We were in Austin at the height of summer, so being in the basement with some “cool jazz,” was a nice way to escape the oppression of the heat.
The place has a real speakeasy vibe, which contributes to the atmosphere along with the brick walls. I don’t know what it does for the sound if anything, but Elephant Room is an awesome underground jazz if you want to get away from the Hordes on 6th St.
