Canyonlands National Park, UT for Photos, Hiking, and Incredible Sunsets

United States

Canyonlands is easily in my top three favorite destinations. I was making a long solo trip from Vancouver, BC to Austin, TX and figured I couldn’t basically pass through the park without stopping, so I did. Damn, was I happy about my decision. I always knew from pictures and friends’ stories that it would be a beautiful place, but I didn’t know the half of it. I got to the park in the late morning on a Thursday, and drove around, finding little pull outs here and there to jump out of the car to take photos and follow some trails. Before I knew it, the sun was starting to set. So I found a viewpoint – Grand View Point Overlook – on the mesa called Island in the Sky, and watched the sun go down. It was insane to see the light of the fading sun bouncing off of all the reds and oranges in the landscape. I camped in my car to get a few hours of sleep and then continued my trip!

Insider Tip

There are TONS of hiking and biking trails – some will take you through the canyons for days on end.
