Chicago, IL for a Couple’s First Getaway

United States
Foodie. Moody.

My boyfriend and I had been dating for a few months and decided to take our first out of town trip as a couple. Chicago isn’t too, too far from us, and neither of us had ever been, so that’s what we chose. It was just a long weekend trip. We arrived on a Friday afternoon and grabbed some Chinese food to-go, then checked into our hotel, and curled up with a pay per view movie in the room.

The next day, we decided to do some sight seeing. We opted out of the tours so cheerfully recommended by the hotel concierge, but we were thankful for their helpfulness. If tours are your thing, though, Chicago has a lot of them – walking, bus, Segway…you name it!

After awhile of wandering around in the sunshine, we decided to grab some food and set up a picnic in Millennium Park. We found a great little hole in the wall market where we were able to pick up a small bottle of sparkling wine, cheeses, and grapes. Perfect afternoon snack. After our picnic, we ducked into a couple of different bars and had some drinks, then headed back to the hotel to clean up for a dinner out with one of my girlfriends at a place called The Gage. (Great food, and its reasonable prices put it in the minority for the area…things around there are sppppendy.) Once we had said our goodbyes, we were pretty tired and enjoyed a hot shower and a long sleep at the hotel.

On our third and final day in the city, we decided we should probably at least cruise by Wrigley Field. It was a cool thing to mark off of our life’s to-do list together. We also stopped by the Shedd Aquarium and The Field Museum to take in some critters and culture. I’d say our first trip was a success!
