During a recent visit to Kauai, one of my favorite areas to call home for a few days was the Coconut Coast. On the island’s east side and just a few miles north of LIH airport, this stretch of beaches and historical towns is a paradise seeker’s dream. From picturesque sunrises to golden beaches for play and relaxation, the Coconut Coast is a great destination any time of year.
While restful relaxation is the only agenda here, you’ll find everything you need in historic Kapaa Town. Kinipopo Shopping Village offers a variety of bakeries and restaurants, while Safeway and ABC Stores have you covered for staples and local goods.
If you book your stay at Fern Grotto Inn Kauai Vacation Rental, you won’t need much at all. These well-appointed cottages provide just about everything you’d want for enjoying your stay. Each cottage has a staple-stocked kitchen so you won’t need to run to the store for seasoning or olive oil. Beach-goers will be happy to know the property provides beach towels, chairs, and coolers for guest use. On site, you’ll also find gas BBQ grills, kayaks, bicycles, and boogie boards—all for free guest use.
It may sound like Fern Grotto Inn is a resort, and the amenities certainly ensure a relaxing stay, but these plantation style cottages offer a more authentic Kauai experience. Each cottage has island-inspired furnishings and is surrounded by lush gardens where you can pick ripe fruit from the trees. How does fresh star fruit or mango sound? You’ll find that here and more, as the cottage grounds are well-tended and ready for exploring. Plus, with direct access to Wailua River, you can put those kayaks to use for a leisurely paddle upstream to see wonderful waterfalls.
The Kauai Vacation Rental at Fern Grotto is a perfect destination for families, romantic getaways, or a relaxing solo retreat any time of year. Located just five miles from the airport and one block from the beach, I was delighted with both the locale and the accommodations.
There are several cottages and homes to choose from at this Kauai Vacation Rental. My spouse and I stayed in Canal Cottage B, a budget-friendly option for couples or solo travelers though the cottage had plenty of space to relax and had a perfect location along the riverfront. Canal Cottage B was constructed in 1953 but is fully up to date with amenities and décor, including bamboo accents and sustainable wood floors, and a nice size kitchen and dinette area. The private lanai is a great spot to enjoy sunrises or sip a glass of wine in the evening. The cottage is quiet, spacious, and clean and is situated close to the river with easy access to kayaks and beach toys.
If you’re traveling in a larger party, you’ll want to book Ohana House. This 1200-square foot home includes three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, along with a spacious living room and full kitchen. The 1942 plantation house was constructed of lumber from dismantled freight ships, and has been completely updated and renovated over the years to offer the best in amenities within a beautiful and historic home. Ohana House comfortably sleeps eight and is situated in the center of the cottage plantation property.
