Crater Lake National Park for camping

We drove three days to get to Crater Lake from Colorado – and though the vistas in Colorado are beautiful, the lake was simply unbelievable. It’s hard to believe that something that BLUE actually exists outside of CGI in the movies! We stayed in Mazama village campground, we hiked out of the campground, but also hiked down the SUPER steep path to get to the lake. There is only one trail to get to the lake, and boy do your quads feel it on the way up! My two older kids and I took the boat cruise around the lake. We did not stop on Wizard Island, but just seeing the vistas from the lake burned up my memory card. There were shades of blue that looked tropical – in OREGON! My husband hiked part of the PCT – and went to the Crater Lake lodge. After sitting on the veranda watching the lake, he went into the dining room for a cold beer and well-earned cup of clam chowder. It was a great start to our journey in the NW United States – we can’t wait to go back and explore more!
