We camped from the Kenai Pennisula up to Denali. We had reservations at Denali National Park, Denali State Park, and one other place. The other 5 nights we winged it. Had a blast. Know ahead of time that the word “resort” in Alaska is sketchy. Get pictures. Ride the green buses in Denali. Don’t give up if you don’t see anything the first day. Went salmon fishing, saw a grizzly nursing twins, camped on a beach littered with bald eagles….very poor manners by the way. The dandelions were HUGE. I thought they were planted. They were beautiful. Don’t feed the eagles. Stop at anything that looks interesting. Take bug spray…when there are bugs they come in Texas size populations. We ran from mosquitoes at a park. We walked into a thick cloud and it was HORRIBLE. Run! Gotta go back and do it all over. I will definitely rent an rv again. Remember what I said about the word resort. It’s either stunning or a dump. If you don’t have experience driving an rv or large vehicle, be EXTRA careful. They are long, wider, and require bigger turns than you think.
If you go fishing fishing with a charter you HAVE TO BUY A LICENSE. It’s typically not included in the charter.
