As soon as I got in the cab at the airport and started to see the Dublin city skyline start to take over most of my view, I noticed this giant pillar sticking up into the air. I wasnt sure why there was this gigantic spire sticking up into the air, I decided to ask. The spire or alternatively the Monument of Light, is a large stainless steel monument that reaches 398 FT. in height. The spire was design by an architect group who sought a “Elegant and dynamic simplicity bridging art and technology.”
A real unique feature that I found is that the pattern around the base of the Spire is based on a core sample of the eart and rock formation taken from the ground where the spire stands. It seems as though this would be a pretty boring thing to visit, but when visiting Dublin keep an eye out for it and almost wherever you are at you can spot the spire to take you back to where you need to be. It was a great tool for navigating throughout Dublin.
