Dushsagar Waterfall is a good option to getaway from the beaches and go off the beaten path. This waterfall originates in Karnataka and it is the highest water fall found in Goa. It is located in the Bhagwan Mahaweer Wildlife Sanctuary and Mollem National Park, in Sanguem Taluka.
On the advise of our Travel Company, we left at 6.30am, avoiding the huge queues and heat of the day. It took one and a half hours to get there. Ticket office opens at 8am. (500 rupees admisson, another 50 each at gates higher up, plus extra foa a camera, nothing for a phone.) We didn’t buy peanuts and bananas for monkeys as we didn’t want to risk bites and hospital visits.
Lots of people did, although it does say Do no feed monkeys, it was not enforced. Greedy monkeys gorged themselves, stuffing cheeks and necks full, which I am told is not good for them.
We were allocated our jeep for Dudhsagar Jungle Safari, which we shared with five others, and were provided with life jackets for swimming under the falls. We changed in toilet/changing rooms behind tickets office for 10 rupees. These turned out to be the cleanest and driest we experienced on our stay…..even had loo paper! Bumpy, off road 30 minutes trip up to falls.
We then walked about 15 mins to falls over some uneven terrain, on a path through the jungle. The jeep driver said we had just over an hour. I wish I had worn sensible shoes – I was in flip flops! First sight of the falls and I knew it was worth the visit! More Details on Dudhsagar Falls
On reaching the pool at foot of falls, again, I was pleased to be here early, as you wouldn’t want to be joining crowds whilst clambering over the boulders to swim. What an exhilarating swim, icy but fantastic. I am a good swimmer, but wore my life jacket, as did most people, it seemed to be very deep.
We did visit a spice plantation on return to hotel, but only for elephant washing – another experience not to miss!
