Guanacaste Province, Playa Hermosa, Costa Rica for Beach days, surfing, snorkeling, tours.

Costa Rica is an amazing country. On your way from San Jose´s airport to Jacó (the best surfing spot), you will find yourself surrounded by mountains, ocean and jungle. How amazing is that? Three different surroundings all at the same time.

In Jacó, it’s a MUST you visit Playa Hermosa. Volcanic sand, huge waves and friendly locals make this beach one of the most unique places I’ve been to. There are lots of hostels (great atmosphere, ranging from 15 bucks a night) and cool restaurants. You can go to Vida Hermosa to have breakfast (super delicious acaí and you should also try one of the typical breakfasts of the country: gallo pinto), and have a great meal by the sea.

Other thing I recommend doing is grabbing some beers and a few snacks and enjoying the sunset at Jacó’s bay. That or either going to one of the bars at the beach and having a few drinks during the golden hour. You´ll love it. If you are tired of the beach, however, you may choose the mountains. There´s a sightseeing point called Miró Jacó where you can enjoy a wonderful view of the city after a few minutes of hiking.

One of my best days of the trip was when I visited Playa Tortuga. This is also a must do if you love snorkeling and all things water. For instance, you get on a 45 minute yatch trip from Herradura (I recommend getting in touch with Zuma Tours for a great and money worth experience) and arrive to this paradise at the Pacific Ocean. There you have an open bar all day and fun activities such as kayaking, snorkeling, hiking, among others. The best thing, however, is the island itself. You are surrounded by palm trees, chilling by crystal clear water and wildlife. Plus, food is also included! They host a bbq for everyone on the tour.

Other things you should add to your trip bucket list is visiting the Tárcoles River for watching the crocodiles, going to a waterfall (they are all over the place) and surf!

Insider Tip

If staying in an apart hotel or house, you should go to the farmers market at Jacó’s downtown on Thursdays, great food plus the best prices!!!!
