Huntington Beach, CA, United States for Beach Bonfires!

I always tell people that ‘travel’ doesn’t have to mean you spend thousands of dollars to go overseas. If you saw my main platform, which is Instagram, you’ll see that most of my travels are not international – nor did they cost thousands of dollars. To me, travel means that you’re experiencing something out of your norm.

This weekend was one of them. Huntington beach is only about 30 minutes away from where I live but having a beach day and bonfire gave me the same happiness it did when I travel. So I thought I would share my Jrrny!

Bonfires are always so much fun. You gather with friends, eat good food, play games, light a fire and of course, make s’mores! I hadn’t had a bonfire since I was very young at some sort of summer camp. A few weeks ago I saw these public pits at Huntington Beach and knew a bonfire was in the near future!

After gathering a group of friends for it, I went to Huntington Beach around 11:00AM to claim a pit. To my surprise, there were only 2 pits left! All the other pits were taken; people were camped out already with open tents, tables, chairs, tons of food, etc. Since it doesn’t get dark until 8:00PM here in July, I was surprised people were out there so early!

We threw around a football, played Spikeball, boardgames, waded in the water and ate tons of food! We had so much fun spending time together around the fire. We laughed, played and ate a lot before the beach got swept clean by the park officials at 10:00PM. By the time we got home, the car and our clothes smelled like smoke but in a good way – at least I kind of love it!

Whether you’re local or just visiting and want an enhanced beach experience, definitely check the pits out!

Insider Tip

Get there early in the morning to claim your pit!
