In an attempt to get some much needed rest without all the tourist hype, last year we decided to go to Lastovo for our summer vacation. Now, Lastovo is definitely a bit off the radar for most people who disregard this little island in favor of the more popular Hvar or Pag, but this is what makes this place unique. So after about a 5 hour ferry ride, we arrived to Ubli. Since Lastovo is not really a place you will find long, pristine beaches as its coastline is quite rugged, our days were spent hiking, admiring the unspoiled nature and tasting the delicious local white wine called Lastovo Marastina. If you find yourself fortunate enough to be in town during the winter, you can visit the most important local festivity called Pokuld – when the entire community gather around in traditional dress to symbolize Lastovo’s resistance from foreign invaders.
