Ljubljana, Slovenia for Dragons and Alternative Culture

LJubljana, the capital of Slovenia, is like a perfect place for a weekend getaway. It’s easily accessible from a good chunk of Central and Eastern Europe, it’s the ideal size to get around on foot, plus there’s aren’t tons of widely established must-sees so you won’t get the dreaded FOMO in case you don’t manage to see everything.

We took a train from Belgrade and stayed in a lovely clean hostel in central area. Enjoyed walking over the bridges (especially the Dragon Bridge) and roaming around the little streets of the old town. As far as museums go, I personally enjoyed Museum of Modern Art, as it contained works by artist from all over former Yugoslavia. If you’re into old/obscure/cult movies, you can visit the local Kinoteka, the selection is always good and the tickets are pretty cheap. Of course, creme de la creme of Ljubljana culture is the Metelkova, a hub of all cool, independent art and a place for all the alternative crowds. Here, you will find clubs, galleries, bars and lots of other things!

Insider Tip

I think all museums are free if you’re in town on first Sunday of the month.
