Echo Park was touted as one of the up and coming hipster neighborhoods when I visited LA a few years ago and it’s definitely true. On my last visit it was very clear how far it had come due to the insurgence of young people to the area. While some of the places I’d visited have been completely renovated and turn into something entirely new, I was happy to see that one Echo Park institution is still standing virtually unchanged.
The Gold Room is a dark little dive bar right on Sunset that has cheap, stiff drinks and a good atmosphere. Not only that, but they usually have a special where you get a free shot of tequila with every PBR you buy. Not only that but they often offer free tacos so you have something to even you out from all the free tequila shots. I’m hoping Gold Room never changes because I never seem to make it there enough.
Echo Park is a fun area to cruise around. They have music venues, art everywhere, and fun little shops. They also have a park, duh. So after you get your fill of walking around this cool neighborhood, make sure to end your day with a couple of cold drinks and some tacos or quesadillas from Gold Room.
