I don’t know about you, but the first place I think of when I think ‘Christmas’ isn’t necessarily Colombia. My last trip, however, sort of changed my tune. I visited a couple of weeks before Christmas – just a short getaway with a friend who was having a rough time – and was quickly taken aback by the brilliant displays that lined the streets in Medellin. When I mentioned this to a local in town, he asked if we had been over to the river. Confused, I said no, and he just smiled and told us to check it out. It was a little bit of a trek from our hotel (about an hour), but boy, am I glad that we went. All of the trees were dripping with lights, and there were displays surrounding – even *in* – the river. Although it was a balmy 75 degrees, I felt more ready than ever for Christmas.
