A Wyoming cowboy starts selling homemade chocolates to raise money for a new saddle, and ends up being a renown chocolatier. Not something you hear every day. But, in the case of Meeteetse Chocolatier in Meeteetse, WY, that’s exactly what happened.
Meeteetse is a small town. We’re talking a couple of bars, a couple of cafes, a church and a post office small. It’s two and a half hours outside of Yellowstone, where I was staying, but my travel buddy and I were feeling like a drive and a sweet tooth led us straight there.
The chocolate itself is great quality, but what really blew me away was the number of unique flavours. Sage? You got it. Whiskey? You betcha. Feeling bourgeois? Try the Champagne. There’s even a Focaccia flavour. Yes, I do mean the bread, and yes, it is delicious. (Rosemary and olive oil blended with the most heavenly chocolate ganache, crunchy chocolate shell, covered in sea salt. Okay.) Bonus points: a lot of the ingredients they use are organic!
If you don’t feel like driving to Middle of Nowhere, WY – they do offer shipping in the fall and winter months. They place deliveries on hold in the summer and part of spring due to high temperatures.
