Miami, FL for an Impromptu Mini Vacay

Last year, I visited Miami in the spring because I had some meetings to attend. Since I had to be there Wednesday through Friday anyway, my husband decided to fly over on Friday afternoon so that we could spend the weekend together, getting some sun. We stayed at the Aloft hotel in Doral, and, although we had planned to spend all weekend on the beach, we actually ended up spending 80% of the time in the hotel. I guess we didn’t realize how exhausted we both were! Still, fairly early on Saturday morning, we managed to venture out and have a small breakfast at a nearby cafe. Then we cabbed over to the Miami Beach area to play in the sand, do some shopping, and grab a couple of margaritas at this super funky Mexican place – Bodega Taqueria y Tequila – that was recommended to us by some locals we met on the beach.

We returned to the hotel around 8 p.m., ordered some room service and went to sleep.

Sunday was much lazier. We spent all morning in bed watching tv, until we decided to strap on our running shoes and head outside to see the area on foot. That afternoon, since it was Easter, we thought it might be fun to get a little dressed up and have dinner down in the XYZ Bar. For hotel food and service – or any food and service, really – this stuff was exemplary. And the drinks were awesome too. We stayed there from about 6 until almost midnight. Yikes.

During dinner, we ended up switching our flights so that we could stretch our mini vacation just one more day. (sigh) Is it time to go back yet?

Insider Tip

We also hopped over to Naomi’s Garden Restaurant after our margaritas on Saturday afternoon. AMAZING Haitian food and a great vibe.
