Tucked nicely into the quite ritzy Monteleone Hotel, this place is insanely cool, and a welcome break from the outrageous bustle of Frenchmen Street. My boyfriend and I were looking for somewhere really unique and out of the way to spend our last night in New Orleans. We came during the last 20 minutes or so of happy hour, and the place was pretty packed. We were really hungry, and couldn’t wait for two places to open up at the 25-seat carousel bar, so we settled for a nearby table.
The whole place sort of feels like a classy, grown up Disneyland in the bayou. The live jazz made for an excellent backdrop to conversation, and it was winter, so it was already dark outside and all the lights reminded me that Christmas was just around the corner. The cocktail list is endless! Being the creatures of habit that we are, my beau ordered a Moscow Mule (or three) and I a dirty vodka martini (or three), and we had the most exquisite evening before heading home the next morning.
I hear it’s pretty standard for this place to be packed with locals and tourists alike. Be prepared to wait, because it’s totally worth it!
