New Orleans, LA for First Saturday Art Walk

It took me more than two decades to make it over to New Orleans, which is crazy, because it is such an amazing place. One of my very favorite NOLA experiences was the First Saturday Art Walk. Down and around Julia Street in the arts district, from 6 – 9 p.m. every first Saturday, all the galleries host free exhibitions and openings. I went with a girl friend of mine who lives in Manhattan but happened to be visiting family while I was there. It felt really daunting at first – there are so many galleries and shops to choose from, and three hours is not that long to see them all! But we had to start somewhere, so we jumped out of our Uber and wandered into the first one we saw. Pleasant surprise: a lot of the galleries offer free wine and beer to sip on while you view their installments, and – because it’s New Orleans – you can take it to go. Needless to say, we had a great time.
