There is this great microbrewery and deli in my hometown that is run by a New York Jewish man that serves a pastrami sandwich and matzo ball soup combo heralded to be the best thing west of the 5 Boroughs. This being my first time in New York, I had to go straight to the infamous Katz’s Deli and find out for myself if my hometown establishment really did bring the taste of New York to the West Coast. Upon entering and receiving my ticket, I already knew I was ordering a pastrami on rye with mustard and a cup of matzo ball soup. As I sat down with my food in the crowded deli everything around me went silent as I focused in on my first bite of a traditional New York pastrami on rye and it was like heaven. I must have eaten that thing like a feral animal because I blinked and it was gone. The matzo ball soup was a perfect addition to round out the meal and now as I sit here and write this, I want more!
