I never thought I would witness anything as magnificent as the Great Barrier Reef until I went snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. It costs money to get on the beach because it is not a beach park but a Nature Preserve and everyone must watch a short video in the Marine Education Center. Also it helps to show up early because there is a limit to how many people are allowed on the beach. Once I got past the preliminary requirements, I walked on to one of the most beautiful white sand beaches my feet have ever trampled. It’s a little disgusting just how picturesque this place is because it is gorgeous and due to it being a cove the water is consistently calm. Without hesitation I set my stuff down so to “claim” an area with my beach towel, grabbed my fins and goggles and headed out to the water. Some of the different fish and colors reflecting off the reef were mesmerizing and I am still kicking myself to this day for not bringing my camera along. I kicked around until I started to feel like my back was going to look like a baboons butt and spent a few more hours wandering around the cove observing all the natural beauty. If you ever find yourself in Oahu, look this place up.
