Dreaming of a Florida getaway? Are you having trouble deciding on which Florida destination to choose? You are not alone! The Sunshine state has an abundance of gorgeous vacation destinations, each offering something slightly different than the others. In particular, we’ve found that future vacationers struggle with choosing between Orlando and Miami. One has massive entertainment and other incredible beaches. Both places sound ideal, but if you only have time for one, how to choose?
Orlando vs Miami – Let’s Explore
We can’t answer that question for you, but we can help you narrow it down! It all comes down to what sort of vacation you imagine for yourself, which you’ll hopefully be able to discern after reading through these questions:
1. What Kind of Entertainment Do You Desire?
Orlando reigns King of the world when it comes to its theme park offerings. If Disney World, Universal Studios, EPCOT, Animal Kingdom and the like are your cup of tea, then Orlando is your best bet.
On the flip side, if culture, art, and colorful nightlife are right up your alley, then Miami will be better suited as your vacation destination.
2. To Ocean or Not to Ocean? That is The Question
For some, going to the beach is the epitome of vacation. For others, laying poolside is equally as fabulous. Orlando is home to some of the world’s most exquisite pools, giving any Miami resort a run for its money. If going to the beach is a must-do, then Miami is the place for you.
3. Urban Aesthetic or Spacious Aesthetic?
Miami is a large, bustling metropolis with a large population, a huge number of visitors, and dazzling sky-high skyscrapers. Though Orlando is also a large city, it has plenty of elbow room. Orlando features wide open spaces, rivers, lakes, and more, but no ocean. Miami is extremely city-dense and offers a glistening coastline.
4. Family-Friendly or Adult Focused?
Theme parks, dining options, the pace of life, ample residential suite-style resorts are all big reasons why Orlando is extremely family friendly. If dancing the night away, sipping cocktails at the hottest bar, and partying on a boat all day are some of your imagined activities, Miami will be perfect! Keep in mind, both destinations are wonderful for all age groups, but generally speaking, Orlando serves families better and Miami serves adults better.
5. Latin Food or American Food Focused?
For starters, both Orlando and Miami are excellent dining destinations. Both cities feature incredible chefs and hundreds of spectacular restaurants. The fact remains, though, that Miami offers mouth-wateringly delicious Latin fare, especially Cuban. If you’ve been craving Cuban cuisine, Miami is your best bet! For tons of dining options and plenty of family-friendly food choices, Orlando is a great choice.
6. More or Less Entertainment?
When it comes to entertainment offerings, Orlando is the top destination. You can spend a week alone at Walt Disney World, not to mention SeaWorld, Universal Studios, the Zoo, Alligator Alley, The Shakespeare Theater, and so many other places. There is a never-ending entertainment supply in Orlando. Miami has plenty to do but in a more subtle way. Visit the Institute of Contemporary Art, head to one or more of the nightclubs, stroll along the beach boardwalk, and check out the numerous museums.
When it’s all said and done, though, Orlando is a more entertainment and Miami is a less-entertainment kind of destination.
The bottom line is that both destinations are fantastic! You will have an immensely enjoyable vacation at either place. Use the above questions to guide you as you seriously consider which place might be a better fit for your needs.
