The Grove is a sanctuary from the boisterous pace of the outside world, neighboring theme parks, shopping &entertainment

Blue skies, sun shining, and a refreshing breeze, three things we picture and dream of when thinking about vacation. Do you spend the same amount of time daydreaming and considering whether to choose a hotel room or residential suite? Probably not – but you should!

There are quite a few key pros and cons of each option, which we will gladly walk you through. You’ve worked long and hard to take this vacation, and it’s important that you make all the important considerations and choices ahead of time, so when you arrive to your vacation destination, you can get straight to the relaxing and enjoying!

To clarify, a hotel room is just one room within a hotel, whereas a residential suite is comprised of either one, two, or three bedrooms, a common room, a kitchen, a dining room, bathroom(s), and balcony, usually within a resort or, sometimes, within a hotel.

Hotel Rooms Vs. Residential Suite – Four Points to Consider

The Group

First and foremost, you’ll want to consider who all will be taking this vacation together. Will you be traveling with multiple generations? Kids and grandparents? Is it just the two of you? Is this a girl’s weekend getaway? Know, for sure, who will be attending vacation before choosing the accommodations.

Hotel Room – If grandma and grandpa wish to be on their own entirely, for example, hotel rooms may work better. Some people prefer complete privacy and do not want to share a suite.

If it’s just the two of you, you may not need all of the amenities and rooms that come with a suite.

Suite – For multiple generations, lots of people in your group, a multiple bedroom suite may be more suitable.

Great for just the two of you if you enjoy having lots of space, the ability to invite friends or family over, etc.

Length of Stay

Will you be staying a few nights or an entire week? The length of your stay is another excellent tool to determine which type of accommodation you should seek.

Hotel Room – Better for a short stay, more economical, won’t need as many in-room amenities.

Suite – Ideal for a longer stay, especially if you know you’ll enjoy being able to cook occasionally and do laundry. More economical over a longer time as you’ll have basic amenities at your disposal. Can turn it into a temporary home.

Room Amenities Needed

The third consideration is all about preference and need. Hotel rooms are often fairly standard – a room with one or two beds, a closet, a bathroom, a table, chairs, and maybe a desk. Suites typically feature 1 – 3 bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, a kitchen, laundry, balcony, and more.

Hotel Room – Best for vacationers who don’t desire or need much else than the hotel room and bathroom.

Suite – Best for vacationers who wish to be able to do laundry, cook special meals and snacks for picky eaters, wish to invite guests over, and want to feel more at home.

How Much Time You Wish to Spend With One Another

This may sound like a joke, but we can assure you, it’s not! This is a truly important consideration. Some families function better when in close quarters, and others don’t.

Hotel Room – Hotel rooms can mean extremely close quarters or totally separate ones. If you’re a group of four, and you wish to be as close as possible, then opt for a single hotel room. Or on the flip side, if you’re a group of four, but you want to have the option for time apart, then two hotel rooms is best.

Suite – Perfect for vacation groups who want to spend as much time together as possible, but with the option for easily accessible time apart. In a suite, the kids can play together in their room, while mom and dad take a nap in the connected bedroom next door, for example. Or, if it’s a girls weekend, those girls who want to stay up and play games and chat can, while the other girls retreat to their connected bedrooms to get some shuteye. Suites bring you together while providing separate bedrooms.

After considering the above four points, it won’t be difficult to decide which option suits your vacation needs best. Generally speaking, suites afford more flexibility and comfort but can be less economical. Just remember – this is your vacation, you’ve worked hard to make it happen, and you want to enjoy it as much as possible!
