When I finally got to the chance to travel to Hawaii, I wanted more then just the standard hanging out on the beach type of vacation. Being a WWII history buff, I decided to check out the Pearl Harbor memorial. Since I was staying in Honolulu, the memorial was only a few minutes drive away. The memorial opens fairly early, which gave me the opportunity to score some free program tickets from the Visitor Center. 1,000 tickets are given out on a first come, first serve basis every day. The memorial is very organized and the shows constantly run throughout the whole day. As a group, we received a brief introduction to the memorial and then watched a 25-minute documentary. After the short video, I hopped on a Navy-operated shuttle boat ride to the USS Arizona Memorial. The whole program lasted about 75 minutes, which gave me more then enough time to check out the other cool attractions at the memorial.
