Portland, OR, United States for Race in the Bridge of the Goddess Half Marathon

I flew to Portland, Oregon to run the Bridge of the Goddess Half Marathon in September, 2016. There were four of us running the race – not your usual girls weekend, you could stay. The race started in Cascade Locks, an hour east of Portland, so we stayed at McMenamins Edgefield. For $33 per night, we each got a bed in their women’s hostel. BEST. HOSTEL. EVER. There are amazing restaurants on site, not to mention the soaking pool at Ruby’s Spa and amazing eats! We drove to the race, 30 minutes away, and ran in the rain for 3 hours. Yuck. The Columbia River Gorge is gorgeous – and would have been AMAZING if I’d been able to see any of the scenery. We goddesses finished, though – and headed out to celebrate afterward!

Back in Portland, we stopped at Voodoo Donut on the way to my friend’s house (Portland Local), lives on the NW side of town. That night we grabbed an awesome dinner at 10 Barrel Brewing (they have a female brewmaster on site, which picked the place for us) and then dessert at Salt & Straw. I’ve never had such amazing service at a restaurant, much less an ice cream parlor, and bone marrow ice cream was a unique treat. Though I stuck with chocolate and Oregon strawberry.

Insider Tip

Take your time and try everything first at Salt & Straw! And be prepared to wait in line, though it’s totally worth it!
