Start the day with lemon water on an empty stomach. It is an essential part of a yogic diet, which eliminates ama (toxic) and acids from the body. It is extremely alkaline, detoxifying, and wakes up all the organs. You can either add honey or rock salt to enhance its power.

A Healthy Balance

Yogic diet or sattvic eating is an amalgamation of proteins, carbs, and fat without banishing any of the nutrients. The food is divided into three categories – Rajasic, Sattvic, and Tamasic.

A sattvic diet contains the guna or quality and brings clarity of mind and restores optimum health. It is extremely eco-friendly and doesn’t include animal protein. According to yogis, the Sattvic way of eating is the best way to lead a blissful life.

Tamasic and Rajasic food are responsible for decreasing and increasing the energy of the body, respectively. Therefore, a Sattvic diet should be preferred as it maintains the equilibrium between the body, mind, and soul.

Plant-Based Meals

Plant-based meals are extremely light and alkaline in nature. Almost every Yoga school in India practices the same pattern of yogic diet to cope up with the intensive training of the students. The plant-based meals should be consumed raw or boiled to maintain their fiber, enzymes, and nutrients. 

Good Fats Complete Yogic Diet

A lot of people consider fat to be the culprit but on the contrary good fats are essential for our body. Balanced meals include all sorts of nutrients in a desirable amount. A yogic diet is incomplete without soaked nuts, seeds, coconut oil, clarified butter, and more. It makes food delectable, satisfying, and digestible. They also have the power to heal the mind, improve memory, and enhance concentration.

Fasting is Important Too

Yogic Diet surely promotes fasting and recommends one day a week for the same. You can choose the type of fast as per your lifestyle, it can be strict with zero intakes of food, or can be a moderate one that includes water and fresh fruit juices. Whatever you choose, keep in mind that the goal is to cleanse the body and mind by giving rest to your digestive system.
