One of my favorite things to do when I travel is to find one or two good, inexpensive bars and give them my patronage on a consistent basis. I require them to be cheap, have beer on tap and be able to pour a stiff drink. The Star Bar became my “local” bar during my time in San Diego because it not only fulfilled my requirements with ease but it was also very close to my hostel. There were a few nights where I planned for this place to be the beginning of my evenings and it ended up being my entire evening as there was always a consistent amount of new faces to socialize with. It is a very standard dive bar with a narrow layout, red walls and black accents, neon lights, a wall with tattoo art and bartenders that will treat you like another person rather than a dollar sign.
