We went on a hiking weekend into the small village of Sasca Montana at the very border of Serbia and Romania. We stayed in a charming little hotel that is places in an old mill on a stream. There are several hiking trails that go from the hotel, and one of them leads along the Nera River, to the National Park and the famous Beușnița waterfalls. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the waterfalls very well, as we were stuck by a storm in the middle of the hike. On the other hand, we got to meet some pretty interesting bikers from Timisoara, which was a great experience. In the evening, we had the popular trout dish, and the fish is of course sourced from the Nera River. The next day, we spent our time admiring the breathtaking scenery and picking elderberry and made juice from it when we returned home.
