I visited Ba Bar on a Sunday afternoon. I had some friends in town from the east coast, and we had a great Saturday night, followed by a pretty rough Sunday morning. Since pho is the obvious pick-me-up for hangover sufferers, and I had heard great things about Ba Bar, we dragged ourselves out of bed and into the world.
This place is perfect. Sort of an industrial feel, but also intimate. The waiter must have perceived the struggle we were enduring, because he immediately suggested bloody marys all around. The drink was a great start, and the pho was even better. The flavors of pho broth in Seattle don’t seem to vary a *huge* amount – it’s pretty much just rich and good or weak and watery (ew). The flavor of the broth at Ba Bar is something else. Very full of lime and some other herbs I couldn’t put my finger on. An interesting and unique array of vegetables – bok choy, celery, various mushrooms, etc. – and perfectly cooked noodles really rounded out the experience for all of us. Hangovers be damned!
These people will serve pho to you until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. What. Yes please and thank you.
