I was training for an upcoming swim (the Park to Park, across Lake Washington!) and needed a great spot to get in some open water swimming. Lake Washington is ringed by tiny parks and beaches where you can cool off in the water or start a swim (stay within 50 feet of shore if you aren’t accompanied by a boat). After trying a few swim spots, I settled on a swim route between Denny Blaine Park and Madrona Beach – about 1.3 miles of waves, views of Rainier, and weaving around docks roundtrip. The fun bit: Denny Blaine is one of Seattle’s unofficial nude beaches. Nudity isn’t against the rules in Seattle, and Denny Blaine attracts a small but dedicated group of sunbathers in varying states of undress.
