Las Vegas has got to be one of my favorite summer destinations. When those temperatures soar into three digits, there’s nothing like lounging poolside with a refreshing cocktail. Then, when evening hits, there’s so much to see and do from world class entertainment to air conditioned shopping to hopping from venue to venue along The Strip.
On my recent getaway to Vegas, I stayed at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, smack dab in the middle of everything. This was my first time staying here, and from the minute I walked in to reception to the moment I (sadly) left for the airport, I loved the energetic atmosphere and overall hospitality. Planet Hollywood boasts 2,496 guest rooms with incredible views of The Strip, famous fountains, and a gorgeous skyline with sunkissed mountains in the distance.
PH guest rooms and suites have recently been renovated top to bottom, making Planet Hollywood the first Las Vegas Caesars property in recent years to completely overhaul their hotel accommodations. The decor is modern but sophisticated, with pops of color coordinating suite design with hallways and even the elevators.
I stayed in an Ultra Hip Room which offered incredible views of The Strip night and day. My king suite included luxurious bedding, a comfortable lounger, a small dinette set, and a writing desk so I was perfectly comfortable catching up on emails and catching up on R&R. Speaking of relaxation, the bathroom came with a separate glass stall shower and a giant soaker tub (perfect for sharing) and plenty of counter space. I also loved having a mini fridge in my suite to keep chilled drinks and snacks close at hand.
If you’re headed to Vegas for a group vacation, you’ll want to check out the sizeable, newly renovated suites. The Ultra Apex Suite has a massive living room along with a bar and dining area, perfect for bachelorette getaways or executives mixing business with pleasure. With 1800 square feet to call your own, each suite has full North or South Strip views to feel like you’re at the top of the world.
As a resort property, there’s no shortage of entertainment and fun to be had on site. The casino floor offers nearly three acres of gaming including eighty table games and a massive assortment of slot machines, so you’ll always find your favorite game. I always enjoy exploring the latest games and I found the selection of slots to be impressive.
For nightlife, you’ll find cabaret shows, and a nice assortment of lounges and bars, but one of the coolest features of Planet Hollywood is The Axis Theater. Here you’ll find resident shows like Britney: Piece of Me and Backstreet Boys: Larger Than Life. During my stay, I was able to see Jennifer Lopez: ALL I HAVE, an incredible concert featuring favorites like “Jenny From the Block” and “Love Don’t Cost A Thing,” with a high energy production including a five-piece band, sixteen dancers, and lightning quick costume changes. Lopez was unstoppable. This was my first time seeing the entertainer in concert and I was wowed by her stamina, vocals, and mesmerizing dance ability. The venue is comfortable with well spaced seating, though there is a dance floor if you’d rather groove along throughout the night.
When it comes to dining, Planet Hollywood has a nice assortment of venues on site that suit every budget and taste. I was thrilled to finally eat at Gordon Ramsay Burger, which always seems to have a lengthy line of hungry guests. Let me tell you: It’s worth the wait! You won’t miss locating Gordon Ramsay Burger thanks to the fiery glass wall and spectacular keg display. But you’re in for more than burgers and beer at this casual celebrity chef venue. The atmosphere is chic and comfortable, and the menu boasts a creative offering of Ramsay’s signature bites for a casual lunch or dinner. The ‘parmesan truffle fries’ are an absolute must for their unique, savory flavor. The ‘farmhouse burger,’ which was super juicy and flavorful, features dublinar cheese, mangalitsa bacon, and a fried egg. If you want to bypass the beef, try kettle chip nachos, a wheatberry-quinoa salad, or the lobster shrimp burger. This visit continues with appreciation for all things Ramsay and I’ll definitely be returning to sample more menu items. Plus, with sixteen televisions mounted throughout the venue, this is also a great spot to catch a game with friends.
For a casual pick-me-up any time of day, head to Planet Dailies. With more than two hundred menu items and 24-hour table service, I enjoyed the casual vibe and generous portions available day and night. I tried the country-fried steak and sausage gravy with eggs and a buttermilk biscuit, which was huge enough to split. Planet Dailies has craving fillers for every taste, from Kobe beef sliders to lobster fettuccine to an extensive salad menu. They also have a nice variety of shakes and smoothie if you need a midday cool-down to go.
Of course, nothing says Las Vegas dining like a fabulous buffet. I dined at Spice Market Buffet, located on the lower level of Planet Hollywood, and enjoyed fresh snow crab, scallops and oysters, and a wonderful selection of items from around the world, including juicy kabobs and honey-soaked baklava, egg rolls and sushi, and a wide variety of pastas. The dessert station is out of this world with a wide assortment of pastries, cakes, tarts, and frozen custard.
Since it’s summer, the pool was my go-to destination every day during my stay. Planet Hollywood has not one, but two huge pools to enjoy that glorious summer sunshine. One pool is all ages with a nice laid back vibe and the other caters to the 21+ crowd with a DJ and bar close by. On the pool deck, there’s a snack bar to fill cravings, deck games, and the best feature of all—the FlowRider Wave-in-a-Box Double. Grab a pal and ride waves side by side on this incredible attraction on The Strip. Or, take your time solo and learn tips from skilled instructors. There’s nowhere else on The Strip you can ride a wave!
My time at Planet Hollywood was the perfect mix of relaxing and invigorating. When I needed down time, I headed to the pool to soak up some sun. When it was time to play, there was an abundance of entertainment and dining options, as well as the Miracle Mile Shops—featuring hundreds of fashion and souvenir retailers, quick bite venues, and services to prep for a fabulous night out. I loved the wonderful view of The Strip my Ultra Hip Room offered and the accommodations exceeded my every expectation. I’ll definitely be back.
