Venice, CA for Hotel Erwin

I had heard stories and seen people hanging out at the rooftop bar from my window at the hostel and decided it was time to “treat myself”. So I packed my bag, walked across the street and checked in to the Hotel Erwin for one night. It is without a doubt the most expensive place to stay in all of Venice but it was also totally worth it to live like a king for a quick 24 hours. As you walk in the lobby has surfboards lining one wall while a looping video of surf footage is projected on another. Though my travels had started to make me look a little less on the presentable side, the staff greeted me with a warm welcome and the service was immaculate.
I got a room on the north side of the building but it was on the 4th floor so I was able to look back over at my old window in the Venice Beach Hostile and have a fake “I made it” moment. After dropping off my bags, a quick jump on the bed just because and a much needed shower, I headed to the infamous rooftop bar. The view was immaculate. You could see as far in every direction as your eyes allowed and the real winner is not the view out to sea but the the view back in toward the rest of Los Angeles because as the sun sets, the hills behind downtown turn bright purple as the sky is a faint blue with the occasional orange accent to mix it up. As the evening progressed, I retired back to my room, turned on the TV to find The Simpsons playing and had one of my first real nights of sleep on the trip.
In the morning, I checked out and headed to my new hostile in Hollywood. I will always recommend this place to anyone as long as you have the money and I hope to be able to return to it some day.
