Envision this: Relaxation in the heart of Waikiki Beach, the sound of ocean surf calling you to sun-kissed sand, and convenient access to Hawaiian dining, shopping, and nightlife. Think you’ll find this exclusively at a costly beachfront resort? Think again. Vive Hotel Waikiki is the perfect boutique hotel that checks everything off your vacation wish list and more.

Located just steps from the Duke Kahanamoku statue proudly standing oceanside between Waikiki Beach and Kuhio Beach, Vive Hotel Waikiki (http://vivehotelwaikiki.com) offers quick access to sunshine, sand, and surf while providing a quiet retreat in a casual upscale environment. On Kuhio Avenue and surrounded by shops, services, and abundant dining options, this boutique hotel caters to wallet-friendly vacation dreams. You won’t find resort fees or hidden costs at this holiday oasis, but you will find every amenity imaginable from in-house boogie boards and beach towels to fast WiFi and courteous valet parking.

During my recent stay at Vive Hotel Waikiki, my spouse and I had a wonderful corner suite that offered breathtaking views of Diamond Head sunrises and a coastal view to tease us to the beachfront. Rooms at the boutique hotel range from friend-traveler twin beds to spacious suites to penthouse accommodations for luxury travelers. Our king suite felt roomy but comfortable with many windows, an abundance of charging stations and electric outlets, and a grand bathroom stocked with refreshing aromatherapy “Archive” toiletries and lush towels.

The modern coastal design is unique and welcoming and, from the moment of check-in to the inevitable time of check-out, the staff offered friendly and attentive service. There’s a fresh, energetic vibe in this casual yet sophisticated boutique property. Every day we took advantage of the exceptional continental breakfast that included local fruits, fresh breads and pastries, and Hawaiian coffee and juice. I also appreciated all-day access to complementary coffee and tea.

This was a fabulous place to call home for a few days. The location was perfect for quick access to the beach and a central spot within the bustling beach strip. Yet we were also conveniently located for arterial roads to lead us around Honolulu and for daytripping along the ocean. It was a nice bonus to be able to take hotel-provided boogie boards and beach towels with us for our drive to the North Shore. In the evenings, we would stroll along the beach boulevard, shop in local stores, and dine at Waikiki’s amazing restaurants.

One of the dining establishments that wowed was Tiki’s Grill & Bar (http://www.tikisgrill.com), just a short walk from Waikiki Beach Hotel. The beachfront patio provided an excellent spot for sunset cocktails and dining paired with live music that set the mood. I started with a refreshing Mai Tai while the spouse went for Kona Longboard Lager in a Tiki’s souvenir glass. My go-to app is coconut shrimp so I was delighted to see this on the menu and I was equally pleased with the taste and texture of this island-favorite. As a seafood lover, I devoured the Macnut Crusted Fresh Hawaiian Fish, though I also would have loved to try the Miso Butterfish so I’ll have to return another time! If you’re a carnivore by nature, the Filet Mignon and Black Angus Steak will tempt you, but I suggest the Lamb Shank & Shrimp Gnocchi. This was my spouse’s entree choice but I sampled this amazing dish and attest to the most beautiful and tender lamb under the Honolulu sun.

We barely had room for dessert, but indulged anyway because Chef Ronnie Nasuti has perfected a delicate and satisfying Haupia Crepe Cake—20 layers of feather light crepes with house-whipped coconut creme. Once you try this, you’ll scheme when you can fit in a repeat visit the next day simply for this heavenly treat. This was the perfect finale for our meal at Tiki’s, which paired excellent service with an unbeatable sunset dinner. Tiki’s Grill & Bar is located at 2570 Kalakaua Ave, which is super convenient for walking if you’re staying anywhere along the beach, but there’s also the option of three free hours of parking provided by Aston Waikiki Beach Hotel (Kalakaua & Paoakalani Ave).

Our stay at Vive Hotel Waikiki offered exceptional accommodations with a fantastic location for exploring the beach and shopping districts. From guest services to in-suite amenities, everything exceeded our expectations and we’d definitely stay again.
