Wai-O-Tapu, Bay Of Plenty, New Zealand for Walk around the Thermal activity

We went for a walk around the amazing Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Valley, This was created by the 1886 Tarawera eruption. The highlight is the beautiful pool The Artist pallet, with it’s many colours and reflections, this is 200 degrees C. and the colour vary with light and temperature. The many species of native birds and butterflies are a nature photographer’s delight. After your walk, you can enjoy a light meal or snack and great coffee or cool drink at the Geyser Cafe, a lovely spot among the trees overlooking the valley in the main entrance. This is an easy 2.5km 1/2 hour walk with easy access for everyone including young children or elderly, but there is also a more challenging longer 2-hour walk taking in the native bush and scenic lookout platform – great for landscape photography.

Insider Tip
