Washington D.C. for Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception

Whether or not you are in to religion, great architecture is something you cannot deny and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception is just that. Modeled after Byzantine Revival and Romanesque Revival architecture, it is the largest Catholic church in the Americas. Yes, the entire Americas. That includes countries outside of the United States where Catholicism is much more prominent. I have had the pleasure of visiting quite a few ancient churches abroad and this place does hold a candle to them. Though there is nowhere near as much heritage behind it, the place is breathtaking. As I walked in to the main doors and looked down the aisle to the pulpit I thought I was back in Europe for a second. I found myself aimlessly wandering the halls shooting photos of just about every single angle of building as was possible. Honestly, there wasn’t much from this city that I didn’t love.
